They had a dream

And like all dreams they woke up the next morning and could only remember parts of it, then after they got dressed couldn’t remembers any off it. They just had this odd feeling inside that something was missing, something had changed them.

It was the wifi missing.

San Fran and Chicago dump their wifi projects. Apparently providing internet to over 200 square miles of city is kind of hard. Witch makes me wonder who exactly comes up with theses seemingly fantastic yet completely non-realistic ideas.

“Negotiations with private-sector partners, including EarthLink Inc., have stalled because any citywide Wi-Fi would require massive public financing. The city had hoped to provide only infrastructure for the network.”-cnn

Chicago to EarthLink “we want the “interwebs” but we don’t want to pay for it, could you do that, that would be cool”

But in san Francisco its not the same case. They are not getting wifi because there greedy dumb heads, there not getting wifi because EarthLink is making people jobless.

“EarthLink laid off nearly a thousand employees, and word came today that addition to that news, it’s latest corporate restructuring would have it completely backing out of investments in its San Fran WiFi project contract, as well as the WiFi contracts in other cities”- engadget.com

and so the dream of a city filled with wifi dies, only to forever be forgotten until a different internet provider with more money purposes the same idea in different words

“Meanwhile, Chicago will be among the first three cities nationwide to have access to a new high-speed wireless network that’s part of an emerging technology called WiMax.”

-cnn

wimax?

wifi to….the max!?
